Our Philosophy
At the Yoga Project™, we believe that your biggest teacher is already within you. Our yoga is guru-less and we aim to teach a practice that is inclusive and applicable to all. We combine elements of ancient yoga, mindful awareness, attention training, and movement science to support your best life. Our classes are designed to provide tools for stress management, resilience, functional strength, and psychosocial well-being.
Our Mission
Our mission at the Yoga Project is to share a relevant and valuable yoga practice with all. We have been progressively developing our teaching approach since opening our first studio in 2005. Our Embodied Posture Methodology™ has evolved to include evidence-based tools that have shown efficacy in alleviating the impact of short and long-term stress on the mind and body.
With decades of yoga and movement experience and backgrounds in orthopedic rehabilitation and exercise psychology, we have designed a helpful practice for everyone. You will find elements of functional movement, breath exercise, attention training, and self-awareness in each class at the Yoga Project.
We are passionate about educating and empowering others with the tools they need to be their own best advocates for their health and life.
THE FOUNDERS / LEAD FACILITATORS
We are Dave & Stacy Dockins, creators of the Yoga Project ™ studios. We have both been teaching yoga for twenty years. We owned and operated three yoga studio locations in Texas for the past 15 years. As with many of you, the pandemic has taken us on a wild ride, and we had to close our three physical locations. It has been heartbreaking on many levels, yet we are here, thriving and continuing to do what we love. We are excited to now call Denton, TX our home!
We have been fortunate to create a robust online community of yoga practitioners. We dedicate our days to filming classes, creating content, and interacting with our yoga teacher trainees. We run an International Yoga Alliance accredited school, currently 100% online and a hybrid option. We have students from all over the world. Now, we will have in-person trainings in Denton, TX! The teacher training programs we offer are in a hybrid format (partially online and in-person) and 100% Online.
Stacy & Dave have been training teachers since 2005. Together, they first created the Texas Power Yoga Institute, then Stacy moved on to co-create Live Love Teach yoga teacher training school in 2008. Together, Dave & Stacy then created Free Life People - school of yoga until 2018 when they simplified everything back to the original brand of Yoga Project. Prior to all this, Stacy worked for Baptiste Power Yoga Institute where she was program director. In 2018 in conjunction with UTA department of psychology, they co-taught the online course, The Science & Practice of Yoga through edX.org where they had 19000 students from across the globe. (this course is still available through Edx!).
ABOUT STACY
Yoga and mindfulness educator, Stacy Dockins, has dedicated over 25 years of her life to studying the human body and teaching yoga. Her immense understanding of the science and practice of yoga is supported by her Bachelor’s of Science and certifications in 500 Hour E-RYT, Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM-CES), Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP), and recently completed her Master's of Science with dual concentrations in Orthopedic Rehabilitation and Exercise Psychology at A. T. Still University.
Stacy recently developed her first book, Embodied Posture, which empowers readers to align yoga postures to best suit one’s bio-individuality. This innovative perspective combines body awareness, science, and exploration, lending practical tools and information that can be immediately applied to the mat.
In addition, Stacy and her husband Dave previously owned three leading yoga studios in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, called Yoga Project studios. These YP locations we forced to close due to circumstances relating to the covid pandemic.
Stacy has contributed to outlets such as Authority Magazine, Well+Good, HealthiNation, and I AM & CO.
Stacy enjoys mentoring teachers and teaching her own weekly yoga and meditation classes through YP. Stacy, along with her husband Dave, together trains teachers and leads wellness retreats in Texas, Thailand, Bali, and Costa Rica.
A few of her other interests include traveling in their tiny home Sprinter van, cycling, knitting wooly things, plants, nature, and books. When they aren’t out exploring backroads on their bikes, Stacy and Dave might be at home in Denton, TX cooking, reading, or practicing together. They enjoy spending time with their children Jake, Kera, and Luke, and their new rescue puppy, Bodhi.
About Dave
I worked in the food industry for over 16 years and then stepped away from it all in 2010 to focus all of my energy on the Yoga Project. I began teaching yoga in 2005 when we first opened Yoga Project. I love cooking, making (and eating) Neapolitan Style pizza, exploring, traveling in our tiny home/sprinter van, and spending time with Stacy, Bodhi, and our kids Jake, Kera, and Luke whenever we can coordinate our schedules. We now call Denton, TX home and we love it! I’m class ‘94 - Texas A&M University.
UNIQUE TEACHING STYLES
Currently, both Dave & Stacy work full-time with the YP 200Hr & 500Hr certification programs and soon will be teaching classes daily at the Denton Studio location. Dave’s classes are down-to-earth and playful. He is known for his laid-back yet athletic style of teaching. Stacy embraces connection in her classes while being skilled at awakening curiosity and body awareness. She believes that teaching alignment is a form of teaching love and self-awareness. She is known for her dynamic classes and love of hands-on teaching. Both Dave & Stacy hold the practice of presence and joy as the foundation of all of their classes. They strive to offer portable gifts that their students can take off the mat and into their lives. Their styles are constantly evolving as they continually grow, learn, and ebb & flow with their own personal practices.
